Magenta Mystery Snail (Pomacea bridgesii)

Magenta Mystery Snails have a white body with gorgeous iridescent freckles, a light purple/pink shell and darker purple stripes.

All of my snails are bred by me in my own tanks. The snails you receive will be juveniles, approximately the size of a dime or slightly larger.

Mystery snails can be vital to a balanced aquarium ecosystem. They serve as natural recyclers, diligently removing detritus, algae, fish waste, and biofilms. These snails are low maintenance and thrive best in a planted, community tank with standard water parameters. To maintain clear, beautiful, healthy shells, provide calcium (Check out my favorite here) and keep the pH above 7 to avoid shell erosion. 

When there is no visible algae in your aquarium, it is important to occasionally add extra fish food, blanched vegetables or preferably some invertebrate food (here is mine). These guys get pretty big, (up to 3"!) so they do eat a lot.

These snails are popular because they are easy to keep a population of one or two easily. They will only breed if you have a male and a female. They'll climb up above the surface of your water, and lay a clutch of pearly eggs. Simply remove if you do not want more snails around....or leave it and be overrun with hundreds of adorable babies in a few weeks! 

Interestingly, they seem to have their own personalities. You may notice your snail climbing to the top of the glass and jumping, only to glide down to the bottom of the tank, this is commonly referred to as "parasnailing". It seems to be just for fun. They also have a tendency to venture to the top or even out the water using a "siphon" appendage. (it's not what it looks like, I promise! The females have them too!) . It is used to help them extract oxygen from the water column or the outside air itself. My snails tend to extend this appendage overnight, retracting it when I turn the lights on.

These Magenta mystery snails (Pomacea bridgesii) may be confused with the similar-looking illegal and invasive 'Apple snails', but they are not! Coming from a similar family, Mystery snails do not eat plants, besides the occasional Duckweed plantlet.
